Rediscovering the 'Me' in 'Mumeeeeeee'

'I have always thought that there is no more fruitful source of family discontent than a housewife’s badly-cooked dinners and untidy ways'. (Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management, 1861)

Handbags at dawn and some sunshine

I've been bag-tagged by the lovely Diney at 'Older Mums Are Fun'. She has challeged me to spill the contents of my handbag. I love this idea, although having rummaged through the murky depths of my current bag-about-town, I'm not entirely sure what my contents reveal about me. Anyway, I am what I am, as they say, so (fanfare, drumroll), here is the 'Hot Cross Bag', exposed for all the world to see (in order of the stuff I found in there).

1. Two empty raisin boxes and a handful of stray raisins (always a joy to encounter when you're fishing around for a pen).

2. A Clinique lippie (rarely used), a hand sanitiser (because sinks in toilets are always far too high for little hands to reach), a cotton wool pad (?)

3. Two mini boxes of Smarties from a birthday party last weekend, a card of Bryon the excavator from Thomas, tissues and some Flaxseed given to me weeks ago by a friend.

4. A pen, a card of Patrick the cement mixer from Thomas, two Breast Cancer Awareness cards from my friend's wedding.

5. My writing notebook.

6. A pile of shopping lists, receipts and Post Its.

7. Two more empty raisin boxes and a crumpled up piece of tin foil.
There was also my purse and phone and lots of crumpled up tissues - some used, some new.

This was all very therapeutic and I now have a much tidier and less raisin-infested handbag! I now pass this challenge onto the bloggers listed below, who I would also, and at the same time, like to pass the Sunshine Award onto. This was given to me a few weeks ago (ooops, sorry), by RebaMc at
'two{become}four'. The rule of the award is to

•Put the Logo on your sidebar, or within a post.
•Pass the award onto 12 Bloggers.
•Link the nominees within your post.
•Let the nominees know they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
•Share the love and link to the person from whom you received this award.

So the handbag challenge and this slice of sunshine are passed to:

Lada Mama
Bumbling Along

  1. These posts make me feel so much less bad about my own bag! (Which I revealed this week as well.)

  2. I am seeing a theme there, Thomas and raisens!!

  3. I keep seeing all these posts and marvelling over how organised and sensible the stuff people keep in their handbags is! Mine is just full of sh*t

  4. LOL about the raisins. Are they for you or the boys? None of mine would ever eat them so it amazes me when other kids do!

I'm looking quite forward to doing this -- my bag is a hopeless mess right now, so it should be a laugh!! I think there's a half eaten granola bar in there still from last week. Ooh er!

    PS Thanks! :-)

  5. Gotta love raisins under the fingernails while searching for pens or loose change. I love you even more now that I know what is in your purse!!

  6. I love seeing these contents. Those Thomas cards are diligently collected by my four year old and placed next to the relevant engine / vehicle when they're laid out on the floor. He'd be horrified if there were one in my bag. I bet there's still a raisin in there.

  7. I don't have a man bag, not any more. I could picture the contents of my wallet, which is essentially money and cards. Very sexy. Well, it probably is to some.

  8. I how great! Love these post. thanks or tagging me :) Looking forward to digging thru my own collection of handbag lint.

  9. Thanks! But what's more important is what's not in my handbag... Like my husband's car keys this morning when he's just driven off in my car... oops!

  10. I think that raisin company must make most of their money from busted boxes of the darn things in the bottom of mums bags! I always find at least 2 boxes, contents long since scattered in the bottom of every bag i own! I should switch to smarties, at least there'd be the consolation of eating them when finally fished out!

  11. I have fished out many little boxes of raisins from my handbag......yuk. But as the kids love them I will continue to carry them :) Well done on the Sunshine aware:) Jen.

  12. Thanks for the tag and some sunshine! Those smarties wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes in my bag :P

  13. Thanks for the sunshine - much needed today as rain ALL day!
Have photographed the contents of my bag - just need to find the time to post.

  14. Wondering about the crumbled tin foil?

  15. Excellent post about handbags! I like your post and take pleasure in it.
    Maintain it up!
    Thanks……….Wholesale Designer Inspired Handbags
